Things change. It seems that a number of people have been taking advantage of a few minor holes in my programme. The first "hole" was in making large bits of manual available to non-purchasers of the original - they've been showing up with printed bits of manual at various dealers and mechanics, who have been getting back to me with the observation that these "freebie" part-manuals are floating around, and being only part explanations of many procedures, doing my good name more harm than good.
And, if that wasn't bad enough, there is now a counterfeiter/bootlegger - call him what you will - violating my copyright by selling cheap poorly-copied knockoffs of an early version - world-wide on the internet, yet! And to make patches available to update these things is just more than I can stand to do!
And finally, the manual has been pretty well perfected for a year or two, now (as of Feb, 2006.) I haven't had a mistake pointed out to me for a long time, and the last additions - before the latest AVL/ Lean-Burn additions for the 2006 version - were made almost two years ago.
So, for these reasons, the Patches Page, like many another nice thing for a nice world that no longer exists, is a goner. It is, as Shakespeare once penned, no more.
I've had it pointed out to me that, If Bill Gates(TM) had my philosophy, we'd all be running on our original copy of Windows 3.1, never having spent an additional dime for an upgrade, and that I might do well to rethink my patches strategy. Well, I was more interested in making sure that the copies that were out there were all good and mistake-free - the legitimate ones, that is! But then, the 2006 version, covering the AVL models, took a lot of time to upgrade, and I think it's fair to ask for anyone needing the info for a new AVL to accompany his purchase of a new bike with that of a new manual. So, I hope the legitimate owners of early copies have all their patches in place by now, and it not without a tinge of personal regret that the patches page must now bid you ...
