Blitz Chess Championship title
and $150 First Prize.
Canada's newest International
Master Igor Zugic was
alone in second place with
15.5-6.5 to take home the $100
second place cash. Eduardo
D. Teodoro IV scored
13.5 out of 22 to finish in third
place and win $50. The 12-Player
Double Round Robin event
was held at the new Dutton
Chess Club on Bayview on
Friday evening - February 25,
2000. Players had qualified
in 2 previous events that were
held at Dutton Chess Club and
Scarborough Chess Club. The
top 6 finishers from those 2
events advanced to the
"final" which had an
average rating of 2300. The
players received free entry and
were awarded a $300 Cash Prize
Fund that was donated equally
from the G.T.C.L. and
the province's 2 largest Chess
Clubs - S.C.C. and
D.C.C.

BLITZ Y2K CHAMPIONSHIP AT DUTTON
CHESS CLUB - SATURDAY, JANUARY

Eddie" (Eduardo D.) Teodoro
IV took a first round
bye and proceeded to score 13.5
out of 18 to win the $150 First
Place Prize and number one seed
into the GTCL Y2K Blitz
Championship. The
first "leg" of the Y2K
Series took place at the Dutton
Chess Club on Bayview and
featured 28 Players
"pounding" out the
clocks for 10 double rounds of
marathon Blitz Chess. When
the dust had settled 6 players
had secured seeds in the
12-player "Blitz
Finals" that will take place
at DCC on Friday, February 25th,
2000 during the Toronto
"Closed" this
year. Goran
Milicevic was alone in
2nd place with a 14-6 result to
score $100. cash out of the $470.
Prize Fund. Michael
Dougherty scored 13-7,
while Branimir Vujic
and Andrew Peredun
both finished with 12.5-7.5
results. Three players
finished in a log-jam for the 6th
and final qualifying spot all
with 11.5-8.5 results. The
three shared $125 in prize money
and then proceeeded to a double
round robin playoff (another 4
games). They included Sam
Haziprodromu (winner of
the playoff) and Ang Meng and
North Toronto junior Michael
Fleischmann. Milan Trbic
scored $70 for the Under 2000
Prize and Ross Richardson won the
2nd prize for that class.
The second "leg" of
this event will take place on
Saturday, February 12, 2000 at
the Scarborough Chess Club with
the other 6 qualifying finalists
to join this strong group of 6
winners for a 12-player double
round robin final at 7:00
p.m. on the evening of Friday,
February 25, 2000.
All of the 12 finalists will
received FREE ENTRY
FEE and will compete for
the $300. Prize Fund
that has been donated equally
from the Dutton Chess
Club, the Scarborough
Chess Club and the G.T.C.L.
First Prize will be $150; Second
$100; Third $50...
