In my previous article, “Osama bin Laden, Alive and Well in Tora Bora”, I proposed that bin Laden, his top military aides and his elite guards have never left the mountains of Tora Bora. But how could that be? The Americans swept the area clean; or so they thought.
To understand the mindset of bin Laden, one must return to 1945 and the dark days of WWII. At that time, things were going poorly for the Germans. Although he was reluctant to admit it, Hitler must have realized the difficulty he was in following the ‘D’ Day invasion by the Allies. Fortunately, he had had the foresight to prepare his massive underground bunker, some forty-five feet below the Reich Chancellery, in the event that it would become necessary to inhabit it.

Likewise, bin Laden, a wealthy engineer, would be quite capable of creating his own underground bunker, much more elaborate and spacious than Hitler’s, and well disguised, invisible from above. The walls of the main bunker would be of concrete, upwards of three feet thick.
A labyrinth of false entrances throughout would disguise the true access hidden deep within the caves. The one cave that is the actual entrance might have a false wall at the back to further the disguise. Opened by remote control, this wall would also serve as a rear entrance, unbeknownst to even the special ops soldiers who have been in this cave many times but who are unaware of it due to the clever disguise.
The caves of Tora Bora
Bin Laden has had years to prepare for the eventuality that he might need to hide in the bowels of Tora Bora, hoping that the Americans would give up searching for him and assume he had been killed in action. He would have enough food and supplies to last for several years, all of which he might well have appropriated from Russian soldiers years before.
There is only one aspect of this elaborate bunker and tunnel system that would be impossible to hide completely. No matter how well disguised, the fresh air ventilation system must come up to the surface at some point, and I believe that this is how bin Laden will eventually be found.
Special Ops in Afghanistan
In order for the Americans to find the bunker, they must go back into
Tora Bora and do an ‘on foot’ search of the mountains, inch by inch. As
painstaking as this may sound, it is the only way that the air vents will
be discovered and, with them, Osama bin Laden.
